Saint-Domingue refugees expelled from Cuba reach New Orleans
From May 1809 to early 1810, more than 10,000 refugees from Saint-Domingue, expelled from Cuba, arrived in New Orleans. They were roughly equal thirds white, free people of color, and enslaved people, and they roughly doubled the city's population and greatly enlarged its Creole of color community.
