About
Louisiana was already here.
Before 1764 documents the Creole, African and Indigenous foundations of Louisiana culture. It puts that record in public hands, and it holds the institutions that renamed this culture "Cajun" to the facts.
The name
1764 is the year the first Acadians arrived in Louisiana. By then the colony was 65 years old. It had been founded in 1699 on Indigenous land, and by the 1740s most of the people counted in it were of African descent.
