1921 Constitution requires public school exercises in English

Article XII, Section 12 of the Louisiana Constitution of 1921 stated that "the general exercises in the public schools shall be conducted in the English language." Students who spoke French or Louisiana Creole at school were disciplined and shamed under this policy for decades.
