Statewide Acadian Bicentennial Celebration

Celebrations were held across Louisiana in 1955, centered in St. Martinville, to mark 200 years since the expulsion of the Acadians. The organizing association formed in January 1954 after a meeting called by the Louisiana Department of Commerce and Industry, with Thomas J. Arceneaux, Dean of Agriculture at Southwestern Louisiana Institute, at its head.
