Treaty of Paris splits Louisiana at the Mississippi
The Treaty of Paris, signed February 10, 1763, ended the Seven Years' War and gave Britain the land east of the Mississippi, with the boundary running down the river to the Iberville River (Bayou Manchac) and through Lakes Maurepas and Pontchartrain. New Orleans and its island stayed with France and passed to Spain under the earlier secret cession.
