Company of the Indies gives up Louisiana; slave trade nearly stops
After the Natchez war, the Company of the Indies returned Louisiana to the French Crown, and the African slave trade to the colony nearly stopped after 1731. During the French period about 6,000 Africans were brought to Louisiana, about two-thirds from the Senegambia region, most of them in the 1720s.
